Regarding fighting and Daisuke Aurora

Although Dai is gutsy and quite scrappy when it's called on, he is also not all that strong in comparison to the unnatural elements in his series. He resorts to dirty tricks as a result, because an elbow to the face is far more efficient at saving his ass at times than anything more fair. That said, he is easily physically overpowered.

However, Dai also prefers to use his wits and his words rather than his strength, and is a highly resilient individual in terms of handling himself when he ends up in the hands of the enemy. Attempts to humiliate him result in little more than a smug smile, and his ability to shake off the effects of psychotropic drugs is profound simply because of the fact that his personality isn't prone to angst.

You can try to fight him. You might even win. But, he will never give you any degree of satisfaction in the victory.

History: Here is a link to Wikipedia regarding the entire synopsis of the series, and here is another link to an episode by episode informational guide as well.

Regarding his past history, since there are no informational links in this regard: Daisuke Aurora, 21 years old, is the younger brother of government official and General Manager of the Department of Security for the city of Judoh, Shun Aurora, forms one half of the primary field team of the Special Investigations Unit-- a Unit that was founded to stop major crimes before they even happened. His father. a government official, was killed in an incident involving an illegally made android 17 years before the start of the story. His mother, a citizen from outside of the city and one of the many people who are designated to keep the life support systems of each of the major world cities running -- called Celestials by city residents because of their status as outsiders, the fact that they possess rare knowledge, and their distance from the day-to-day lives of the rest of humanity-- left the small family to return to her people 18 years before the start of the story. Young Daisuke was raised by a variety of people in his life, but the ones who made the most impact on his life were the old and wisened Shogun, a former Mafia leader, and his elder brother after the other boy recovered from the physical and psychological shock of witnessing their father's murder.

Walking behind Shun, and staring at the scars that the young man bore over the years, affected many of Daisuke's decisions and behaviors in his life. Where the elder brother grew to become an intense individual who was driven to the point of personal ruin, the younger brother took a laid back approach to life. His grades were passable in school, he dabbled with and grew bored of the stock exchange that caught the interests of people who were sucked into get-rich-quick schemes, and he generally preferred hanging around the city streets, particularly the bustling Kabuki Road in the town center, over doing any actual work. It was a waste of the shrewd intellect that he possessed underneath his charming smile and carefree demeanor

Three years before the storyline, under his brother's insistence, Daisuke agreed to team up with the experimental android built for special purposes despite the governmental ban that was dubbed J and work for the Special Investigations Unit  that his brother had put together with only a handful of personel and a shoe-string budget.  There were two reasons for why he didn't argue: one was his love of the city, despite its flaws, and the other was his desire to help his brother ease the nearly two decades' old pain in his heart.

AU History: A Unionite born and bred, Daisuke Aurora is the youngest son of a counselman and a Fairy-typed Enlightened. He and his elder brother, Shun, faced loss early on in life when their mother disappeared without a word into the wilds and their father was killed in a freak accident involving a Metagross that, even 18 years later,  still isn't confirmed as being one hundred percent accidental. While his brother, fueled by the frustration of not knowing, swiftly carved a path through the political channels until he became a counselman as an adult, Daisuke was always conent to lay low and talk with the people. All the while he watched his elder brother, knowing that he still bore the scars of their childhood losses, and quietly worried over him from afar. It was the only thing that a young boy could do.

Well aware of his own Enlightened abilities from an early age, Daisuke was well accustomed to talking with the stranger residents of Union. Befriending everyone from the feral pokemon that wandered on the street corners to the loner kids who were teased in the school yard, Daisuke felt that they all had something unique to offer to this world. That uniqueness was what made the City he called his home something special, in his mind.

He loved it. He loved every crack in the road and every person he met. And, despite seeing what all a person can become in this world due to the colorful people on the seedier sides of Union that he was effectively raised by, he lacked the ambition to try to be something more. His grades in school were barely at passing levels because he was simply too bored with the game of Academics to achieve perfect marks; his physical fighting skills, though enough to protect himself and get the job done, are nothing flashy enough to win him any awards or powerful enough to let him take on strong opponents alone.

It was only with his brother's meddling and insistence that he found himself with a combat oriented pokemon partner and a position with the Swords of the Savior. He accepted these assignments in part to make his brother happy, and in part because he genuinely wanted to help the people and pokemon of Union in any way that he could.

Canon Personality: Cool and laidback to the point of fault, Daisuke Aurora is an intelligent and compassionate young man who has a strong sense of justice and would rather be out in the field gathering the intel he needs to do his job rather than filling out the reports that are necessary to hand in to the department chair. He is open-minded enough to befriend everyone from stubborn merchants to hardened assassins-- a possible byproduct of his upbringing at the hands of the shadowy Shogun, a long since retired mafia boss who kept his connections to Judoh's underground-- but is easily bored when things seem too easy. Despite having a good eye for details and a good mind for numbers, the kind of skills that would make a person a success at the stock market, he only dabbled with such things for a short while in college before he gave it up for the sake of different pursuits. He prefers the easy approach in life, quick to make jokes, and genuinely loves his city... and it shows in everything he does.

First impressions of him are that of someone who spends more time slacking off than actually working. He is perpetually late to work, and most of his time in the office is spent lounging on the small couch they have in the waiting area, either catching a nap or watching the news. In the field, he's not dissimilar-- most of the time he travels unarmed, a consequence of the department's eternally low budget, and prefers to go and pester the colorful people in the city's downtown on Kabuki Road while they're busy doing their own jobs. He keeps a running tab at his favorite noodle stand, has multiple IOUs for a meal paid out of his own pocket that are held by one of his many informants, and prefers hanging out by the waterways in the city when he's trying to think over his current case load. When he is pestered into actually working, he always comes up with some snarky quip to throw out there even if he doesn't really mean it. He is a man who doesn't sweat the small stuff...and the 'small stuff' has a very wide margin in his opinion.

Underneath that laziness is a mind that is constantly churning over whatever details he comes across. He is clever enough to put together pieces of scattered rumors that are barely connected by a thread in order to properly execute his duty of stopping crime before it even happens. He is also good at knowing what kinds of questions to ask at the right time so he can get the information he needs, and reading between the lines of what people say and do to figure out their intentions is one of his specialties.

In action, he prefers taking a non-violent approach whenever it is possible. It amounts to less paperwork for him, less stress for everyone else, and makes for a better end result if everything works properly. He will do everything from bluff his enemies into believing that he has more sway than he really does to intentionally antagonizing the enemies into making a move that will get them in trouble without him needing to lift a finger. When a fight actually breaks out, he gets down and dirty because, ultimately, it is the more pragmatic approach. If shoving his elbow into someone's face will end the fight quickly, then it's what he'll do. Given the relative scarcity of bullets at his disposal, he prefers not to use his gun if he is able to get away with it.

Unfortunately, he does find himself out of his element in regards to different cultures or situations outside of his norm at times. During his first venture outside of the limits of the city-state of Judoh, his first comment to J, his android partner consisted of a single question: "What is that smell?" He had never been in nature until that moment-- the scent of grass and dirt was entirely foreign to him, and he balked at it at first. Similar things were applied when he encountered residents from the self-sufficient villages outside of Judoh and all but ran head first into culture shock regarding their culture of self sufficiency that was so fierce that two adults seen helping each other complete a task was ridiculed. However, despite initial fumbles in these encounters, he found a way to adapt himself to the stuation without compromising his own values or demeaning the values of others and their lifestyle.

Overall, his practical methods, creativity, and flexibility can also be traced back to his upbringing. His mother walked out on the family when he was very young, and his father was murdered before the eyes of both his brother and himself not long afterward. Despite bearing witness to both of these incidents, he weathered these traumas with no scars....in fact, the only scars he bears from these trials at all are from witnessing his elder brother, who was ten years old at the time, struggle with his anger and frustration so much that he never really recovered from it. Staring at his brother's physical and emotional scars and watching him wrestle with his emotions for years sent Daisuke on a path that was the exact opposite of his brother's. In fact, the fact that his brother was traumatized by all of this is Daisuke's trauma, and the one thing he really wants is to help his brother's heart heal from these wounds.

If that meant tracing the trails over a case that was eighteen years old and long cold to uncover the mystery of their father's murder, then so be it. If that also meant standing in his brother's way in his plans to take over the city to rid it of corruption....then, that was also acceptable. His love for his brother is only outshown by his love of the city...which, for all of it's flaws, is what he truly considers his home.

Although his margin for 'small things' is rather wide, his list of 'important things' is decidedly short and he will act swiftly and decisively if any of them are put at risk in any way. These 'important things' are his brother, his partner, his friends, and his city-- in no particular order. However, with his strong stubborn streak is a strong level of faith as well. In the incidents where his life was in danger because of his partner or his friends being controlled by outside forces, or even when his brother tried to take him out for getting in the way of his grand plan, he managed to de-escalate the situation with his calm words, his compassion, and his strong trust in each of these individuals. Some would call him naive; others would call him a fool. But, no one was hurt unnecessarily.

They can't say that he was wrong.

AU Deviation: The largest deviations in Daisuke's characterization and general personality are based upon cultural values than any real shift in his own circumstances, as many parts of the AU echo elements from his canon. Union in it's contemporary form, when compared to the Judoh from canon, is a far more open minded and progressive city-state that regularly encounters people from outside territories these days. Encountering travellers isn't a rare happenstance that is looked upon with questioning, judgemental eyes and is instead a curious but welcome sight. Daisuke, while never very judgemental even in canon circumstances, would likely have an even larger margin of tolerance than he does in canon.

Also, given how exploration and encounters with nature are routine in this society, Daisuke would have far more familiarity with natural climates and locales than he does in canon. Where taking joyrides on his trusty amphibious motorcycle and hanging around the artificial waterways is something he commonly does in canon, he would likely take to some of the more daring aspects of wilderness exploration-- such as rock climbing and the like-- and hanging around parks or natural rivers/lakes with similar energy and affection. Also, given how advances in technology are on the rise, Daisuke would be very keen to see how all of the new innovations work.

Given how the seedier elements from his own canon, which is a blend of hardboiled cop fiction and dirty cyberpunk thematics that is rife with gang wars and political upheaval, is far more uncommon in Union, Daisuke is likely to balk more at the notion of actually hurting people unless it's out of extreme necessity. Seeing as he was in part raised by these seedier elements still in the AU, it would be something that is still conceivable for him to add to his defensive maneuvers, but he would definitely push harder for a non-violent option because of a degree of unease rather than laziness.

In regards to the pokemon themselves: Daisuke in canon works with a colorful cast consisting of everyone from plucky child scamps to hardened ex-convicts who are slowly being driven mad due to brainwashing to super powered androids who are blessed with enough personality to wax philosophical on the core precepts of being a man and maintain individual relationships in their own right. He also has a knack for listening to people and treating everyone with an equal degree of respect. The relative intelligence of pokemon and their ubiquitous nature in society, with all of their variations in personality, typing, etc, echoes these many colorful people that he's met on Kabuki Road.

Overall, however, the core precepts of his personality don't change very much given how closely I was able to parallel his backstory. The only things that change are how he reacts to situations based upon cultural norms.

Canon Abilities: In a world with androids, madmen, and genetically enhanced escaped convicts, Daisuke is a shining example of how tough an ordinary person can be in these scenarios. He is light, agile, and strong enough to handle himself in a street fight, preferring to use 'dirty' moves like low kicks, dodges, and using his elbows to smack foes in the face, but he is easily overpowered in a physical confrontation. His true combative strengths are his creativity, his wits, and the government issued gun that he needs to beg the department to use-- and, even then, he is only given barely a handful of bullets to use with it. Fortunately, he is an exceedingly good shot and knows how to make the most of his limited bullet supply.

Daisuke's preferences in a fight are to outwit the foes, use their own strategies against them, or fake them out by bluffing his way through the situations. Unfortunately, even in the few times that he does manage to gain the upper hand on his own, he will throw in the towel and choose to humiliate his foe instead.

Where he really shines is outside of combat. Daisuke has the mental and emotional capacity to be able to handle most situations with barely a flinch, and he is able to befriend even the most antisocial of criminals with just his kindness, compassion, and persistence. He is able to coax intel from stubborn girls and hardened mafiosos with equal ease, and is right at home in the rougher elements of society despite the fact that he is a higher class citizen due to his political connections and family name. Beyond that, he has an excellent mind for gathering information and connecting elements that people wouldn't be able to see ordinarily...and, his faith in his friends is so strong that, even when he is forced to face them in a fight, he firmly believes that they will return to his side without anyone getting hurt unnecessarily.

Enlightened Abilities:  Daisuke is a Fairy/Normal typed Enlightened with the Kindred Soul Ability. His typing shifts to Fairy/Electric during his first evolution.

While in canon Daisuke is a fairly ordinary person, his Fairy typing in the AU is a nod to both his heritage and his general personality. His mother is an outsider to the city-state of Judoh and is one of the few people in the world who is trusted with the forbidden knowledge that sustains the scattered civilizations across the planet-- these people are called Celestials in canon. Addtionally, as many Fairy-typed moves are based around the concepts of playfulness and disarming opponents, this typing suits those aspects of his personality. Normal typed moves of the scrappier variety can be used to fill in the voids left in the known Fairy-typed skills. Furthermore, his shift to an Electric type is a nod to his affinity for technology in canon and the fact that his commonly used 'blue tab' bullets are intended to electrically stun opponents rather than actually doing any damage.

In his first form, Daisuke is very akin to his canon-self in terms of abilities. Besides his tendency to be a slacker,  strange ease in throwing opponents off their guard and his uncanny knack for targeting, Daisuke's skills are largely oriented around his speed and his ability to slip in and throw a few cheap shots in when he can, akin to moves like Swagger, Chip Away, or even Double Edge when he's feeling particularly impulsive. While he may seem weak in and of his own self in this stage, it should be noted that he can still withstand dizzying blows and stay in the fight. On occassion he may spark people on accident-- a trait that he would write off as a result of associating with far too many steel types rather than as a hint of abilities that are still to come.

His second form brings about a typing switch, and a host of unexpected complications that will take a little while for him to adjust to. The shift from a Normal typing to an Electric type makes him more prone to draw in Electric-typed attacks as if he were a lightning rod in a storm. The stored electricity is then released when he physically attacks his foes in a melee, shocking them and occassionally paralyzing them long enough to turn the tide of the fight. Furthermore, when he is worked up or otherwise emotionally charged, he may unconsciously release this same stored electricity on anyone or anything in the vicinity. It will take him some time to learn how to control these effects. Besides the obvious challenges from the typing switch, his stable Fairy typing will now allow him to generate a shield to protect his friends from status altering effects or create a blinding flash that can cause damage to opponents. He will otherwise continue to grow in strength with his prior abilities, and people encountering him at night or under the cover of darkness will notice that he subtly glows.

His final form continues to bring about physical changes: his hair grows a little longer and wilder, and will subtly carry an unnatural shine when it's hit by any kind of light. The glow brought about by his previous form remains, and becomes something he can actively control the intensity of without it ever fully diminishing. This skill, with practice, will become something that he can channel into an exponentially more powerful version of the flash attack that he gained in his previous form. What he gains in power is limited in usage and will wear him down if he uses it too many times in sequence, but that will hardly be a problem with his expanded electrical skills as well. This form also brings with it the ability to emit a wave that alters his or his allies' Normal-typed skills to carry with them an Electric charge, similar to how Ion Deluge works. Finally, he will gain the ability to unleash a concentrated electric strike upon his enemies.

Starter Pokémon: A Beldum, called J.

Notes/Special Considerations: I'd like for Daisuke to be part of the Swords of the Savior, but I'd also like there to be some controversy regarding his placement in the organization, due to the meddling of his elder brother who is on the counsel.

I would also like for him to have an electric typed gun, geared for disabling and paralyzing people instead of outright killing them-- like a stun gun, if that's allowed. I'm okay with it having low PP or strength if that is one of the conditions..

SAMPLES

First-Person: Musebox Thread

Third-Person:

He was thirteen minutes late to the lunch reservation that his brother had arranged with the upscale restaurant earlier in the week; by contrast, he was only three minutes late for his appointment at the breeding center-- also arranged by his brother-- to meet the pokemon that he would call his partner from that day forward. There was no subtlty in the meaning behind his brother's actions, and Dai was well aware that his brother was trying to get him to grow into being a responsible adult. As siblings, and the only living members of their family, their actions reflected on each other....and, this included both the good and the bad. But, being responsible meant waking up early, keeping his flat clean, being careful about who he made friends with, and to stop talking to pokemon all the time.

...It was also the definition of 'boring.' The world was too exciting for that.

Even if he knew that working with his brother's plans was going to be in the best interests for the both of them, he didn't see any reason to devote himself fully to that sort of rigid lifestyle yet. He only a few years into adulthood, and '30' was still very, very far away. Thus, annoyed by the reminder of how he needed to grow into the young noble that society expected him to, find a career and settle down to start family, he took a meandering course on foot around the city to his next destination rather than taking the direct route that would have brought him there with time to spare. It was a subtle rebellion, but the brisk walk in the sun was enough for him to find a few moments of peace to listen to the idle chatter of wild pokemon before he had to actually talk to regular people once again. For a few scant moments, he didn't need to ponder over those annoying pretenses and could just be himself. That was enough for him to recollect his calm.

He sauntered into the building, removed his shades, and smiled at the staff-- friendly as ever and completely unrepentant in his tardiness. The worker led him around the back, tutting about the time and how he needed to be more mindful of that in the future. "Yeah, yeah," he said, verbally brushing off the words he had heard dozens of times since he had graduated from the school system with no career and no goals to speak of. It still didn't really matter to him, until--

The uncanny focus in that single red eye caught Dai off guard, as did the wholly mechanized nature of this pokemon that he couldn't recall ever seeing before. Intellectually he knew that a Metagross was involved in his father's death, but that had happened when he was far too young to remember.

So...this was a Beldum.

It started to hum in a low, rumbling tone-- and Dai couldn't tell if he was actually hearing the words or if they were being transmitted directly to his mind. "I was told that you would be arriving at 3:30," The pokemon said, as a statement of fact. "It is currently 3:33."

Out of everything that he had heard that day, this was almost enough to really frustrate Daisuke. Almost.

"You piss me off," he said, but there was no malice in the tone. Instead, there was a grin on his face and an intrigued glint in his eyes.

What an interesting pokemon his brother had picked out for him.
